An improved variety, Yellow Petunia is a tender perennial (Zones 10-11), often grown as an annual, offering spring through summer interest. It has an efficient, tight, dome shape; a controlled, spreading habit; and manageable vigor.
The plant gracefully cascades from containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets but also makes great edging or ground cover in beds and borders. Planted alongside perennials and vegetables, petunias repel asparagus beetles, leafhoppers, a range of aphids, tomato worms, and many other pests.
Extremely easy to grow, it prefers full sun to light shade and average, medium moist, well-draining soil. It tolerates poor soils, heat, and cold and is deer resistant and virtually disease and pest free.
Although petunias are low maintenance, pinching off the tops of established plants results in a bushier habit and a heavier bloom, and deadheading regularly encourages and prolongs flowering. Cutting back plants that have declined in summer heat promotes a later bloom as temperatures cool.
